How much does a small business website cost in the UK?

Four ways people pay

The figure you see first is rarely the whole cost. These are the models we keep being asked about. None of them is a quote.

DIY builders

You pick a tool, you build the pages, and you pay the tool every month or every year. The first month can look cheap. You are also paying with your own time. If you stop paying, the site usually comes down. Some tools let you connect a domain you already own. Others sell the name as part of the plan, and taking it with you is not always simple. We are not pricing those tools here. Their own sites have the current figures.

Monthly website plans

A company builds the site and bills you every month. Hosting is often included in that bill. A typical published starting price, as of October 2026, is £49 a month. Over 36 months that is £1,764. Yell’s published starting price is £299 a month, with a 12-month minimum. That is at least £3,588 in the first year, before any set-up fee, and £10,764 over 36 months if you stay on that rate. These are competitor prices, taken from published starting prices. A quote you are given can be higher.

These named plans are for trades. We checked them on 26 October 2026. They are competitor prices, not ours, and not a quote.

Freelancers

A freelancer often charges a project fee to build the site, then something separate for hosting or for later changes. Some charge once and hand the files over. Some keep a monthly retainer. Ask who owns the domain, who holds the files, and what you keep if you stop. The range is wide because the jobs are not the same.

Agencies

An agency is the same shape at a higher fee: a project price, sometimes with a care plan on top. A three-page site and a shop are not the same job. Plenty of agencies charge once for the build. A monthly plan is another way of selling a site.

Three years, against published competitor prices

The same comparison as the home page. The monthly cards are competitor prices, as of October 2026. Our card is the one-off price. A comparison, not a quote.

Against those competitor prices, you save from £1,065 to £10,665 over three years.

Quorum

You pay once

£99 for the first 5 clients, then £199, £499, or £699

or £9.99 a month (6-month minimum) for Expert.

Foundational, Expert, or Expert Pro. One payment on the one-off prices. No monthly website bill on those one-off prices. Other freelancers and agencies also charge a project fee.

Saving over three years against those published competitor prices
Quorum package You pay You save vs a typical monthly provider You save vs Yell
Foundational £99 £1,665 £10,665
Expert £499 £1,265 £10,265
Expert pay-monthly £9.99 × 12 × 3 = £359.64. 6-month minimum. £1,404.36 £10,404.36
Expert Pro £699 £1,065 £10,065

Competitor prices are published starting prices, October 2026. The saving is the gap between those totals and our one-off price. It is not a promise that another firm would quote you those figures.

Staying on Expert pay-monthly for three years is £9.99 × 12 × 3. The minimum is 6 months. Buying outright is still the £499 Expert price, less the payments already made.

What is in each package is on the offer page. If you are in Nuneaton, web design in Nuneaton is the local page. Bedworth, Hinckley and Coventry have their own pages too.

What drives the cost

How many pages you need. Whether you already have the words and the photos. Whether you want booking, a login, or a shop. How many rounds of changes are included, and how long someone stays available afterwards. A one-page site for a window cleaner is a smaller job than a firm that wants a page for every town it covers.

Hidden costs

The monthly price on the advert is not always the bill you finish with. These are the ones worth reading before you sign.

  • Domain ownership. If the domain is in the provider’s name, leaving can mean a transfer, a fee, or losing the name. On a one-off package, ours is registered in your name. On pay-monthly the domain stays in Quorum Digital’s name until you buy it out. Renewal later is the registrar’s own fee, not a website subscription.
  • Exit fees. Some monthly contracts charge to release the site or the domain. Ask before you start, not when you want to leave.
  • Hosting renewals. A free first year can become a yearly bill. A one-off build can still have a hosting bill if hosting was never included. Our hosting is aimed at a free tier, so there is no monthly website bill from us.

What happens when you stop paying a monthly plan

The usual result is that the site goes offline, because the company is hosting it for you. You may not get a copy of the pages. If they registered the domain, moving it can take time. Read the minimum term, the notice period, and what you are allowed to take with you.

Stopping a support plan on a one-off build is a different thing from losing the site. You pay us once. There is no monthly website bill. After the included support, we offer optional care plans you can cancel any time. Care is £15 a month: hosting watch, uptime monitoring, 30 minutes of small edits, and a monthly one-page report. Care Plus is £35 a month: Care, plus 1 hour of edits, Google Business Profile posts, and a review-request link. You can skip them. The site stays yours. Don't like the first draft? Walk away and pay nothing.

Foundational is £99 for the first 5 clients, then £199, with 30 days of fixes. The table above uses that introductory £99. Expert is £499 with 12 months of capped support. Expert Pro is £699 with 24 months. Capped support is fixes, uptime and form checks, and a couple of small text or photo changes a month.

Add-ons, including a Google Business Profile tidy-up at £79 and a Get Found bundle at £149, are on the add-ons page.

Switching from somewhere else

If you already pay for leads, a directory, a website builder, or you run on a Facebook page, these notes say what you keep, what that service publishes as a price, how a move works, and what happens to a domain.

FAQ

How much does a small business website cost in the UK?

There is no single figure. A DIY builder or a monthly plan is an ongoing bill. A freelancer or an agency might charge a project fee, a monthly fee, or both. Foundational is £99 for the first 5 clients, then £199. Expert is £499 and Expert Pro is £699. Other people charge once as well.

What do the £49 and Yell figures mean?

They are competitor prices: published starting prices as of October 2026, not quotes, and not our prices. A typical monthly provider at £49 a month is £1,764 over 36 months. Yell starts from £299 a month with a 12-month minimum, so the first year is at least £3,588 and 36 months is £10,764 if you stay on that rate. A real quote can be different. Named managed plans last checked on 26 October 2026: Toolbelt is £29–£149 a month plus VAT, with a 12-month minimum and no setup fee. Trades Van Systems is £499 to set up, then £96 a month, for the website and job tools. My Webby is £29.99 a month including VAT, with no long contract.

What happens if I cancel a monthly website plan?

In most cases the site comes down, because the provider is hosting it. You may not be able to take the pages with you. If they registered the domain, moving it can mean a fee or a wait. Check the minimum term and any exit fee before you sign.

Who should own the domain?

You should. If it is registered in the provider’s name, leaving can mean a transfer, a fee, or losing the name. On a one-off package we register the domain in your name. On pay-monthly the domain stays in Quorum Digital’s name until you buy it out. Renewal later is the registrar’s fee.

Do I have to keep paying Quorum?

No. You pay once. The site stays yours if you skip them. Don't like the first draft? Walk away and pay nothing.

Is a one-off website fee unusual?

No. Freelancers and agencies often charge a project fee and hand the site over. Monthly plans are another model. We charge once. Others do too. The useful question is what you keep, and what still renews, after the build is paid.
